Research and Clinical Interests
Substance Misuse
My clinical and research interests related to substance misuse include the misuse of substances such as opioids, stimulants, alcohol, and marijuana.
Mental Health
My clinical and research experiences include, but are not limited to: substance use disorders, anxiety, depression, and PTSD. I also have clinical experience with serious mental illness (SMI).
Harm Reduction
I aim to explore all paths to recovery, including harm reduction. Harm reduction in substance misuse can include identifying safer use practices that reduce the risk of opioid-related overdose. I was awarded a grant with a colleague at the University of Cincinnati to adapt an opioid overdose harm reduction intervention for Black adults.
Intervention
My research and clinical practice aims to identify effective, evidence-based intervention strategies across populations. My work has focused on informing, adapting and tailoring substance use and mental health interventions for Black and multiracial adults.
Prevention
I have research experience identifying risk and protective factors for various mental health and substance use outcomes. This work helps to identify who is at risk for certain outcomes to help develop preventions.
Populations and Research Methods
My research focuses primarily on Black and multiracial adults. I use mixed-methods designs in my research, and have expertise in numerous qualitative and quantitative research and analysis methods.
